Origin of the UBSC

From May 5th to 6th 2006, upon invitation, Bhagavan Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Xin-De Wang Maha-Thero of the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the dual celebration of the 4th International Buddhist Conference on the United Nations Day of Vesak and the 60th Anniversary of the Thai King’s Ascension to the Throne; more than 4000 Buddhists attended this global Buddhist conference.

During the conference, Bhagavan Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Xin-De Wang Maha-Thero received the invitation of the Most Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Maha-Thero, the Secretary General of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth (WBSY), to attend the 3rd Annual General Conference of the WBSY from December 2nd to 5th 2006 held in Sri Lanka.

From November 11th to 17th 2007, Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 4th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at the Wat Sanghathan and Wat Dhammakaya. During this meeting Bhagavan Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Xin-De Wang Maha-Thero was unanimously elected as the President of the WBSY.

From December 4th to 6th 2008, in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia became the host to convene the 5th Annual General Conference of the WBSY, during this conference Bhagavan Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Xin-De Wang Maha-Thero was elected as the Spiritual Leader of the WBSY.

From October 20th to 22nd 2009, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 6th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at the Bansoji Temple, Yamagata, Japan.

From September 3rd to 8th 2010, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 7th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at Taipei University in Taipei and the Bodhi Temple of Chiefsun in Kaohsiung City, Tainan, Taiwan. During this conference the entire WBSY assembly offered the living body sarira of the Great Holy Sakyamuni Buddha to Manjusri-gatha-mati-ksetra Elder Dhyana Master Bai Yun of Gu Fan Mi.

From October 26th to 30th 2011, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 2600 year anniversary of the Great Holy Sakyamuni Buddha attaining the path to enlightenment along with the 8th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held in the towns of Galewela and Dambulla of Sri Lanka.

From December 7th to 9th 2012, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 9th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at the Dhammakaya Temple in Munich, Germany, and Geneva, Switzerland. During this conference the two great transmissions of Theravadayana Buddhism and Tantrayana Buddhism inherited and continued the 2nd historical “Spiritual Dialogue” between the First Ancestral Holy Patriarch Bhagavan ZHI-JI Vimalakirti and the Great Holy Sakyamuni Buddha of Ancient India.

From September 27th to October 2nd 2013, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 10th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at the Dhammakaya Temple International Meditation Centre in Azusa, California. During the conference, Theravadayana Buddhism and Tantrayana Buddhism conducted the 3rd Spiritual Dialogue at the Ci Bei Temple of the U.S.A. Headquarters of the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia at Rolling Hills, Los Angeles, California.

From September 25th to 29th 2014, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 11th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held at Gondesan, Taoyuan, Taiwan.

From October 15th to 17th 2015, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 12th Annual General of the WBSY held at the Dhammakaya Temple Benelux, Lede, Belgium. During this conference, the 5th Spiritual Dialogue between Theravadyana Buddhism and Tantrayana Buddhism was conducted.

From July 11th to 12th 2016, the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia attended the 13th Annual General Conference of the WBSY held in Dawei, Myanmar, also participating in the 6th Spiritual Dialogue between Theravadayana Buddhism and Tantrayana Buddhism.

Based upon the aforementioned history of the global dissemination of Buddhism around the world, Buddhism around the world is precisely facing the great circumstances of the extreme need for “higher level spiritual guidance”. Under such encouragement of this great circumstance, the Secretary General of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth (WBSY) and High Sangha of Sri Lanka, Most Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Maha-Thero, along with the President and Spiritual Leader of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth, the President of the World Headquarters of Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia, Bhagavan Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Xin De Wang Maha-Thero jointly initiated and co-founded “World United Buddhist Sangha Cultural Exchange Council, simplified as “United Buddhist Sangha Council”, and abbreviated as “UBSC”.
